Kunhalu's is an institution nearing a century of service to the city of Cochin. This depicts the sincerity and dedication of the institution and its torch bearers, which very few can boast of in this country.

Started in the year 1924, as a small Nursing Home with inpatient facilities by late Dr. A.K.Kunhalu who was one of the first qualified medical practitioners in Kerala, then the princely state of Travancore Cochin. Dr.Kunhalu qualified in medicine from Calcutta Medical College in 1918, and started his practice in Ernakulam at padiyathukulam on Market Road. He then shifted to the present location on T.D. Road. In 1955 he was joined by his eldest son Dr. K.P.Mohamed Babu who after qualifying from Madras Medical College, and then his training at Hamilton General Hospital, Hamilton, Canada. After the untimely death of Dr. Kunhalu, in 1963, his second son Dr.K.P. Abdul Majeed a graduate of Kilpauk Medical College Madras, also joined the institution. He after an illustrious career, expired in his seat while careering a patient in 1984.

Dr. Mohamed Babu successfully continued to run the institution till 2015, when he retired from active practice at the ripe old age of 89. Meanwhile, a third generation Kunhalu, Dr. Rafiq Mohamed a consultant Physician, joined the team in 1987 and is still at the helm of all matters. And as destiny decides, the fourth generation Kunhalu, Dr. Shabnam Jameela Rafiq a consultant Physician has now stepped in since 2016 to take up the mantle. Her husband Dr. Arafat Muhammed Haris is a Consultant Radiologist. Very few institutions can claim having catered to 4,5 and probably 6 generations of patients who have continued at the same institution.

Circumcisions

Circumcisions are done for all age groups. This is one of our specialties.  From the age of 3 days after birth. Religious and for medical reasons. Kindly fix appointments for the procedure. If the child or person has any medical conditions/illnesses, please do inform earlier and take clearance before the procedure.
We do cases under sedation and local anesthesia as a 4 hour procedure for children. So you may leave much before noon the same day. Adults need to wait till early evening only.

Vaccines

We store and dispense most of the available vaccines as per needs and schedules for Pediatric and adult use. Specialty vaccines are also available with certification. Our certificates are accepted in all GCC countries, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand etc.

Medical Checkups

We conduct medical checkup for various countries around the world as per their norms. Our certificate are issued for GCC, China, Singapore, Malayasia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, many African countries, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Yemen, Israel, Mauritius, Seychelles, Czech Republic, Poland, Cyprus, Ireland and many others.

The tests are conducted in a foolproof method by instantly photographing and biometric recording at the time of registration to prevent any sort of malpractice.

GCC (GAMCA) Authorized Medical Centre

We are the first GCC approved medical checkup centre in the city of Cochin. Authorised since 1984 to officially conduct and issue certificates to candidates proceeding to the Gulf countries for jobs or to join as family.

We provide online registration service for medical checkup to GCC countries like Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, etc.
